In the meantime, consider the following process, cost and time starting points.
An initial consultation has no cost. It is recommended that potential customers visit David’s studio to understand hot shop capabilities e.g. size and schedule of annealer. He assesses your request to see if it’s a good fit and will determine a budget that works best for you.
Producing a new idea takes iteration. When making a form new to David you will need at least one complete hot shop day for R&D to understand how to use glass to negotiate the vision.
Scheduling hot shop days changes on a monthly basis. Creating a commission from consultation to final delivery will take at minimum one month. Timeline is determined on a case by case basis.
Hot shop blow slots are 4 hours long, a complete day is 8 hours ( 2 slots ). Starting cost is $150 per blow slot.
David uses glass color available in rods and frit. Color cost and availability are determined by manufacturers. The color used in commissions changes the cost of the product. Occasionally colors are unavailable for some time, this either extends the working timeline or changes design.
Assistants are essential to David’s glassblowing style. Assistants are paid $100 per blow slot. Customers are responsible for this cost and is included in overall budget for commissioned work. Glassblowers looking to assist David are encouraged to contact him.
